| AGES U6: Little Slugger Program |
| This program is designed to provide kids an introduction to baseball. Kids will learn basic skills like how to throw and catch a ball and how to bat. Every kid plays the field on defense and bats on offense each inning. Coaches pitch to the kids and if the kid does not hit the ball after five pitches it is placed on a tee. A softer baseball is used. The season is five weeks long and runs from May to early June. Each team is scheduled to play ten games (rainouts are usually not made up). Games are played either Mon/Wed or Tue/Thu. (If you are not sure if this is the right league for your child, DADS recommends this league for kids in 1st grade and under.) Fee : $35.[U8: Pee Wee League]6, 7 & 8 yrs. – Pee Wee Programs: These programs take the basic skills learned in Little Sluggers and develops them further. Pee Wee play is more advanced than Little Sluggers. Kids should possess basic baseball skills. They should, on a consistent basis, be able to hit a pitched ball, be able to throw the ball to another person with reasonable accuracy, and should be able to catch a thrown ball. The Pee Wee program uses a pitching machine which provides the kids a pitch at a consistent speed and location. This helps them develop their hand-eye coordination. In Pee Wee, ten kids play the field while every kid bats. A little league-sized baseball is used for play. Outs are recorded and score is kept. At the end of the Pee Wee Major League season only, there is a league-wide tournament. There are two options for Pee Wee – Minor League or Major League. Both programs start at the end of April or beginning of May (depending upon weather). The Minor League program will run into June, while the Major League program runs into July. Games are played either Mon/Wed or Tue/Thu. (If you are not sure if this is the right league for your child, DADS recommends this league for kids in 2nd grade and under.) Fee: $45 for Pee Wee Minor League, $55 for Pee Wee Major League |
